Looking for Burleigh..........

I am trying to research my family tree on my grandfather's side (mother's dad), his name was Gavin Cooper Burleigh and I believe his parents were Gavin Burleigh and possibly Catherine Morrison, they reside from Lesmahagow or similar area. This side of the family prooves difficult. if anyone has Burleigh from this area it would be a great help..

Where did you get the info about his parents? There is a Gavin Cooper Burleigh born 1905 - does this fit with your grandfather's age?

Looking at the marriage Ina directed you to will confirm Gavin senior's parents but this looks the most likely family (considering Gavin's middle name) on census records.

The 1904 (not 1905) Gavin Cooper BURLEIGH died aged 3 months in 1904, but there was a further birth of a Gavin Cooper BURLEIGH in Lesmahagow in 1915.

William BURLEY and Marion COOPER married in Lesmahagow in 1862. That record gives you the names of their parents. William was aged 48 at marriage (possibly massaged down a bit!, as his bride was only 26), and it looks like both his parents died before 1855, so it won't be easy to trace the line back further.

As far as I can see the OPRs don't help but it may be that earlier censuses will help in terms of others in the households concerned.
