Post by MCHARDY97 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 12:03 pm

Does anyone know of the above McKand family. One who came to Lancaster and Liverpool and were Quakers.
Also David McKand married into the Davidson family of Annan in Liverpool.
I would be pleased to hear from you.
Thanks

Free Cen has just 1 family in 1841:

Piece: SCT1841/892 Place: Mochram -Wigtownshire Enumeration District: 4
Civil Parish: Mochrum Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Mochrum
Address: On Killantrae Farm
Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
MCKAND William M 27 Farm Labourer Wigtownshire
MCKAND Jannet F 21 Sister Wigtownshire
MCKAND Agnes F 3m Wigtownshire
MAGS Margrat F 9 Lodger Ireland

http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Though curiously Scotland's People isn't showing any matches for that spelling in 1841.

Joan you can do a free search for the surname on SP [link at the top of the page], but there are few results showing, which would likely mean the spelling isn't always constant.

If there is any particular person or time scale we may be able to help further.
If they were Quakers that would explain few mentions in Parish Records

Hi Wilma,

The McKand family in Mochrum parish are indexed as McKana. I had a look at the image. It could be either name, but is probably McKand. The enumerator's lower case d's are not a lot taller than the other letters, and hence are similar to his lower case a's. It is very unusual to find a relationhip on an 1841 census. Jannet has been listed as sister in the occupation column. The word sister has been scored through, but is still fairly ledgible. Similarly, what is almost certainly 'lodger' is written in Margrat's occupation, and also scored through. FreeCen's transcriber has picked up on these.

I found one person in Scotland in the 1841 census indexed as McKand, and the same person is indexed as MacKand. I've not looked at that image. She is in Stranraer, and is also the only MacKand in Scotland in the 1841 census.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hello - and thanks for the listing of the McKand family in D & G I think I have most of them.
I know a John MKand came to Liverpool and married Abigail Robinson -

I am also looking for an Andrew Davidson born (possibly Annan) c 1770 He was a Master Mariner and
was heavily involved (sadly) in the slave trade between Liverpool and Demerara....
He later became a Merchant. And may have died in Demerara c. 1820
News of him is very limited.
If anyone knows of him, I would be pleased to hear.

Joan, Liverpool
