Hi Robyn,
Did the entire family go to British Columbia, or do you think some stayed in Scotland? It's harder to trace people in recent times, since there are fewer records online, but can be done with some luck!

All the best,
Sarah

Hello Sarah, thankyou for your reply. The whole Douglas family left Saltcoats port on the "Metagama" for Canada. Thomas Douglas brother John Douglas lived in New Westminster B C. that was their destination. Sarah I have a photo which I would love someone to tell me who it is!. My mother had written on the back " Jim Douglas senator Canada" but my investigation so far has drawn a blank and I somehow think she may have been wrong. If I could just find family to fill in these blanks and to share what little photos I have would be wonderful. Regards Robyn

Good luck to you on this! I hope one of your distant cousins sees this and can fill in the blanks. I wish someone would come up with a photo of some of my "brick wall" people!

[cheers]

This fellow was a "Jim Douglas senator Canada"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Moffat_Douglas

James Moffat Douglas - "The son of John and Euphemia (Moffat) Douglas, he was born and received his early education in Linton, Bankhead, Roxburghshire in Scotland, and came with his parents to settle on a small farm near Cambray, Ontario, in 1851"

He was a Senator for the province of Saskatchewan from 1906 to 1920.

Thankyou Sarah and Alan. Yes!, I have checked out James Moffat Douglas. No go! thankyou for your help anyway. I have hit a brick wall here unless I can get onto a relative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks heaps Sarah but that is not them. Thomas Douglas parents are John Douglas and Helen Duff. I am still researching into all their children 14 of them. wow! Looks like a lot of them also went over to Canada. I am beginning to think my mother has put a wrong name on the back of the photo, however I will exhaust all avenues first before I think she may have made a mistake. Before she passed away she put names on the back of photos but think she may have been mistaken with some of them. God Bless her, guess she didn't realize I would get so involved in Family History. The photo of James Moffat Douglas does not match my Jim Douglas photo, thanks guys for your help. Like you say I just hope one of the relatives reads TalkingScot Forum. Take care, and thanks heaps. Do you have a copy of the death records? The informant will be shown who is often is a child. The record has other information that the familysearch site does not include. I can get a copy from my local Vancouver library if you like. Also the three marriage records are also available which I can get if you want them.

Hello John, How kind of you to offer to do that for me. Your help would be greatly appreciated. No I do not have any death records/cert only what I have found on line. Anything that may help me find a relative would be wonderful. How do I repay you for anything out of pocket which you may incur???????????? Sincere thanks. Robyn

Hi Robyn

I picked up 6 records yesterday (3 marriages and 3 deaths). On two of the death records, the informant was a son. I also found a couple obituaries on line which name quite a few relatives.... see
http://classifieds.canada.com/vancouver ... &goback=30
So there may be quite a bit to work with.
Please send me a PM with your email address and I will send you the records. The records do not cost anything so no need to be concerned about that.

John
