Delnoon / Denoon / Danoon

Post by Desboro' » Thu Jan 26, 2012 6:17 pm

Looking for any information on Jane (aka Jean) Delnoon circa 1795-1840 - Grange & Rothiemay, Banffshire.

She was shown on her daughter's Rothiemay death registration (1888) as Delnoon, but has appeared as - variably - Denoon and Danoon.
Born & married in Grange, Banffshire, Jane died in Rothiemay about 1840, having been married to James Stables of Grange and had a son and two daughters - all born in Rothiemay.

Any assitance most gratefully received.

Firstly a Warm Welcome to TS

Have you had a look on the census records for the family?

Freecen [ http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl ] in the 1841 census has a selection of Jean/jane Stables and several James Stables too.

You haven't mentioned any of the children's names, so you'd have to check to see if the sons/daughters names & ages match up.

I did an IGI parent search for james Stables and Jane/ jean Delnoon/Denoon :
George 1794
Jean 1796
Isabel 1805

A marriage comes up as:
JAMES STABLES
JEAN DANOON
Marriage: 13 JUN 1793 Grange, Banff, Scotland

So I think your birth year of 1795 for Jean is a typing error?

Do let us know what info you have, where you found it and where all you have looked - it's helps us not to double search.

Looking at the 1841 census gives James Stables age as 75 making a birth year of 1762-66.

There is this Jean Denoon born at Grange -

name: Jean Denoon

baptism/christening date: 20 Apr 1763
baptism/christening place: GRANGE,BANFF,SCOTLAND

father's name: David Denoon

mother's name: Jean Donald

How you go about proving it's her is anther story.

Have you looked at the OPR marriage record in case it gives any clues?

Regards,
Annette
