George Wallace.....

Post by Jeans girl » Sat Sep 10, 2005 9:03 am

Hi
Can someone tell me where I should continue with search for GEORGE WALLACE.
married to Agnes THOMSON 7th feb 1820 in Glasgow
Children
William b 1821 Pittenweem
Mary b 1823 Glasgow
Andrew b 1826 Glasgow
James b 1826 Glasgow
george b 1831 Glasgow.

James m Margaret Hutton in 1857 Margaret died in 1864 they had one son george b 1859 george died 1871 aged 12.
James m margaret Cumming in 1867 at largo.
i have there children and all birth and death records.

I have george and Agnes in buckhaven in 1841 census with mary James and george and again in 51 census
but the two georges are not at home.
I have traced mary still in Buckhaven until her death but have not had any luck trying to get the death of agnes or george.
I think i have opened every george Wallace death on scotlands people again to no avail.
George was alive When James married first time and deceased by the second mariage Agnes was still alive.
any suggestions please.
regards
margaret.

Hi Jeans girl

Agnes' death register entry is straightforward. Do a cross check search for Agnes WALLACE/THOMSON and there are 6 hits, one of which, - the record that you are after, - is shown with the age as "U" ......

As for George, all I can suggest is that the apparent info thru the lack of the annotation "dec'd" after his name on James' 1857 marriage register entry was incorrect, and that he had died before 1855.

Fife FHS have published a CD with the extant OPR death records, so that this could be worth a look, as could any extant and published MIs for Wemyss and surrounds.

Hi Jeans girl

Following on from David's suggestion, I had a quick look on the FFHS CD -"Fife Death Index version 2" and did not see any obvious mention of either of your George Wallaces - not in the Weymss/Buckhaven area. The only one on the disk who died after 1851, was buried on 25 Nov 1852 at Cults, (OPR 419-2) and no further information is given about him at all so he could be any age.

That doesn't mean that they didn't die in the period before 1851, just that, if they did, they don't appear to be on the CD ROM.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi,

Many thanks for the replies.

Agnes Wallace was not a widow on the 1851 Census of Buckhaven.
Both the Georges were linen Mill workers i wonder if there was a night shift at the mill?

Margaret.

Hi David,

many many thanks for putting me in the direction of the death cert for Agnes Wallace.

I have looked and looked for that even to the extent of scrolling thru all the rools of film at the FSH center and crsoo referenceing the Wallace and Thomson all to no avail.

Only wish George was as quick to find. I am struggling to go back any further as I can not confirm his parents.
I presume they are William Wallace and Mary Ritchie but need georges death cert to confirm.

I have marriage entry 1820 Glasgow for george and Agnes but no mention of parents.

Also not sure of marriage for the young george b 1831 or what happened to him.

Also Andrew b 1826 was not on 1841 or 51 Census.Have not been able to find death for him either.

Any help or suggestions appreciated

Regards
Margaret.
