Hastings - Larbert

Post by Morag » Fri May 04, 2012 5:45 pm

Hi

I am getting tied in knots here, and could do with advise please.
I am trying to connect some people - and failing miserably !

John Hasting/Hastings/Haston - married to Jean Henderson, 1799 in Larbert - this is my main line , and I have all census reports, and what certificates there are.John died before 1841, Jean between 1841-1851. I know nothing of their parents.

John seems to have a sister Christian, born abt 1788 Larbert, married to James Baird in 1825 Larbert, died 1851-1855 - so no parents known. In 1851 she was living with John/Jean's son , also John , in Larbert & was listed as Aunt

There is also a John Haston/Margaret Marshall who were in Larbert & having children between 1783-1800( according to the parish records )They had a John in 1800, as did my known family, so they cannot be the same family, but none of their children appear to be in any censuses.

There is also Euphemia Hasting who married John Reid in 1810 in Larbert. I think she died before 1837, as he seems to have remarried then. They had several children.

I have checked MIs, memento-mori website - but would appreciate any thoughts.
My family, and all children don't seem to have wandered far - all are found in either Larbert or Falkirk. John Haston/Margaret Marshall are buried in Bothkennar with a John Marshall/Chr Jackson, dated 1779 - possibly Margaret's parents ?

Basically, I would like to connect Euphemia & John (h/o Margaret ), to my family, and then find clues as to the Hastings parents - not asking much, I know ! ](*,)

Any thoughts gratefully received, as I have spent a lot of time with this lot, and seem to be going no-where

Hello Morag,
Have you checked the testament of John Hastie, mason in Falkirk, who died in 1812? His wife Agnes Gray died in 1837. Assume these are not your family, but in case they are the parents of your John and happen to mention the fact...

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah

I hadn't looked at that, I must admit. I just checked their children,( admittedly all submissions ) and they had a son John born in Falkirk in 1802 - so yet another one to add to the mix ! I hadn't really considered Hastie as one of the many variants, so will put it on the list to check.
Thanks once again for your quick response.

Regards
