I've just been checking a few of the surnames I'm researching on the GOONS website - with varying success.
I wondered if anyone could tell me if Scotland is represented by the GOONS site or if it has its own website for one name studies?

As far as I'm aware GOONS covers all of the British Isles.

Re: Guild of One Name Studies
GOONS has membership worldwide, there are regional reps through out the British Isles, North America, South America & Australasia.
Looking through the names you will see most names are of the British Isles but not exclusively so.
When I look at the surnames of 4g greatgrandparents, a quarter of them from Yorkshire, 2 from Ireland, an eight are from the United States all but 1 appear English the outrider looks Hispanic, all the rest are Scottish. There are only a handfull are suitable for one name studies which apart from DODS which I've already registered the only other Scottish name I would consider is YELLOWLEES.
Surnames of patronymic origin are fairly common in Scotland as well as Clan names, which may have something to do with it.
cheers
