Hi
I'm a new member and would appreciate some help tracing some info on my gg grandmother Jane Somerville.
I have marriage and death records for her and some census details - the early one's I' m not 100% are hers.
Info on her marriage cert says that her parents are Thomas Somerville and Marjory Fisher and her death cert says Thomas Somerville and Marion Fisher. I've found some census records 1851 onwards that may show her living with Marion Somerville in 1851 in Carluke. I assume that her father was dead by then as he is not on the census record. I have searched Scotlands People endlessly and can't find Jane's birth certificate. I think that she was born about 1838 in Leadhills or Crawford.
Thanks or your help
Kay

Hello Kay and ![TS welcome [TS_welcome]](./images/smilies/TS_welcome.png)
Judging from the family you found in Carluke:
1851
23 Dyke Row, Carluke, Lanark
Marion Somerville, 51, Head, born Crawford, Lanark, Sewer
Thomas Somerville, 18, Son, born Crawford, Lanark, Ironstone Miner
Jane Somerville, 15, Daughter, born Crawford, Lanark
James Somerville, 13, Son born Crawford, Lanark, Ironstone Miner
John Somerville, 17, Son born Crawford, Lanark, Ironstone Miner
James Somerville, 40, Lodger, born Crawford, Lanark, Ironstone Miner
I believe this is the family in 1841:
Leadhills Glazers Row, Crawford, Lanark
Thos Summerville, 30, born Lanarkshire, Lead Min
Marrion Summerville, 36
Thos Summerville, 8
Jean Summerville, 5
James Summerville, 3
John Summerville, 1
There is a birth in Crawford for a Jean Somerville in 1835 on ScotlandsPeople. Remember that the names Jane, Jean and Janet were all interchangeable.
All the best,
Sarah

Re: Jame Somerville, Leadhills
Thanks Sarah
That it really helpful. I had found the 1851 census record but not the 1841 record. I'll go back on to SP and look at the birth cert.
What a great forum and site
Thanks again

Re: Jame Somerville, Leadhills
You're very welcome, Kay
I also note that there are 3 people named thomas s*mervil* who died in Carluke between 1841 and 1851 -- no idea if any of them are yours, though. If he died in Crawford, you're out of luck, since according to the list of Extant OPRs, deaths don't survive for that parish.

Thanks
I searched using s*mervil* rather than the full name as I have done previously and have found my Thomas' death cert. I've made so much progress today thanks
