I recently discovered that my 3xg grandfather John Paterson married for a second time in 1859 in Portpatrick to Mary Davidson.
I am trying to find the death of Mary the daughter of William Davidson and Janet Anderson b 1828 Inch Parish Wigtownshire
I have information on some of their children but still searching for the following:-
Annie b 1864
Agnes b 1869 she was a witness at her sister Janet's marriage in 1888
Thomas b 1872 all in Stoneykirk Wigtownshire.
Thanks in advance

Hello babbie and ![TS welcome [TS_welcome]](./images/smilies/TS_welcome.png)
How far have you been able to follow them through the censuses?
Mary is still with her son Peter in 1891, with her age scaled down a bit...
1891
Float Cottage, Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire
Peter Patterson, 24, Head, born Stoneykirk, Wigton, Ag Lab
Mary Patterson, 60, Mother, born Stoneykirk, Wigton, Ag Lab Mother
Do you know what happened to Peter? Where were the other children in 1901? If everyone disappeared, it begins to sound like emigration.
All the best,
Sarah

Re: John Paterson and Mary Davidson--Stoneykirk Wigtownshire
Hi Sarah,
Thank you for your reply.
Peter was still single in 1901 census and in Kirkcolm he married there in 1905 and died in 1935,
Janet was married in 1888 to James McCartney she died in 1927 in Whithorn they had one daughter called Mary born c 1889
William married in 1890 Maggie McGraw he died in 1929 in Old Luce which I believe is now Glenluce they had a son and daughter William and Mary ( no birth dates as yet)
I found Annie in census in 1871 -- Agnes last found as witness in Janet's marriage in 1888 and Thomas in 1872 census.
Regards,
babbie

Hi Annette,
Mary was still alive when William married Maggie McGraw in 1890 but was deceased when Peter married Mary Nisbet in 1905 .
Peter was a witness at Williams but no member of the family were witnesses at Peters.

Hi again,
I note that James, Janet and Mary McCartney are in Whithorn in 1891 and then in Borgue, Kirkcudbrightshire in 1901. There is a death of a Mary Paterson in 1896 in Whithorn, have you looked at that one? She is recorded as 75 years old, thus born in 1821, which fits with her reported age in 1881, but not with the birth you mention. Other surname Davidson gives no result, either. Seems a bit old to be having children in the years she did, but I just wonder whether you have looked at this one. It wouldn't be the first time the wrong age was given at death.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi,
Unfortunately this is not Margaret I had a look at the certificate.
I found her on OPR's and IGI and she was born in 1828 .
Thanks again.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I assume you have her parents' names from the marriage certificate? If so, she must have given them herself so they are probably right.
Best wishes,
Sarah
