David McDonald & Mary Kennedy - Invernesshire
Hi,
I was wandering if anyone out there can help me find a couple of ancestors who possibly came from Kilmonivaig, Invernesshire.
Their names were David McDonald (a joiner) & his wife Mary Kennedy. I have found 2 children so far;
David McDonald b. 29th Nov 1824 ? in Inverness
John McDonald (wood sawyer) b. 1825-27 ? in Kilmonivaig,? according to the 1871 census. He died on 2nd May 1874 aged 48, in Tradeston, Glasgow.
Did they have any more children ?
I can't find John or his family in any of the census's apart from 1871 in Tradeston, and can't find any births for his 3 children, Isabella McDonald (Mathie)
b. 1844 in Glasgow, John McDonald b. 1852 in Glasgow, or another son born after 1855.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Daryl

Hi Daryl,
The birth of son Donald (who was the 15 year old chain maker in 1871) in 1855 is easy to find in Tradeston. I found it on Family Search, father John McDonald, mother Margaret Young and it looks as though it is there on SP also. Donald can also be easily followed in the censuses and he conveniently keeps making chains which separates him nicely from all of the other Donald McDonalds around.
That's a start, anyway, but it's getting late so my brain is shutting down
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for that info on Donald, I've had a look on family search & Ancestry and found details regarding him and his family
.
I had another look at John McD's death cert. and am finding it difficult to decipher, so will upload it on here to see if anyone out there can help
read it
.
I still can't find births of David or his brother John, or the marriage of their parents David McD & Mary Kennedy
Regards,
Daryl

Hi Daryl
I tried to look at the image, but I cant get to to a size that is readable!
I did mange to adjust the size after all, but the image quality could be better. I could not work out his cause of death, Maybe you could contact SP for a better copy, they are usually very helpful with this.

Looks like "Congestion of ______" Can't make out the last word. I agree with Stew that you should get a better copy.
Andrew, I don't think you're looking at the same image... This is John McDonald, a wood sawyer journeyman married to Margaret Young, who died in 1874.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Now I've looked at the right certificate
, I can shed no more light on it than Sarah already has. The scanned image is poor. Hopefully SP will provide you with a legible re-scan of the certificate.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi,
Thanks for trying to decipher John's death cert.
I have reported the image to SP, and they are going to re-scan the certificate and email me another copy
.
Here's hoping it might shed some light on things.
Regards,
Daryl

Hi Daryl
I blew a few credits to get the proper image and what it says is 'Congestion of brain, 8 days'
Best regards

Re: David McDonald & Mary Kennedy - Invernesshire
How could I have missed this one? The names fairly jump out at me now!
My great great grandparents were Alexander McPherson and Mary McDonald of Lochtreig, Kilmonivaig. I do not have their marriage details, but their eldest son was Murdoch, born c 1821.
My great grandfather was Donald, born 1837. (There was another son Donald who was born in 1831, who also survived according to the census, must have made things very confusing.) I do know there was mention of Kennedy, if I could just remember where. I cannot help thinking we must be related somewhere along the line.
Best Regards
Ann
