Hello Katy and [TS_welcome]
What is it that you would like to find out about this family? I see you have the 1891 and 1901 censuses-- do you know anything about William before he came to Scotland? I see that he and his oldest son were born in England, yet wife Elizabeth and the younger children were born in Leith. Given the gap in age between the older son John and his next sibling and the difference in birth places, I'm wondering whether Elizabeth was his second wife. If so, and if they married in Scotland, then the marriage certificate should tell you the names of all of their parents (Scottish certificates are wonderful for the amount of information given).

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Katy,

In the 1881 census, 2 years after their marriage in Leith, you can find them in Jarrow, County Durham with three of William's brothers, a sister and a step-sister; as well as his wife (Eliza) and their eldest son (John Thomas); and two boarders.

In the 1911 census, William is widowed, and is living in the household of daughter Susan and her husband; with Bridget.

I see what looks like William's death six years later. However his son-in-law (Susan's husband) seems not to know many of William's details (compared with the details William gave at the time of his marriage).

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew, had a spot of computer problems.. sorted now. thank you for your reply.. would that be the English or Leith 1911 for Susan her Husband and father and Bridget? they seem to go back and forth.. I cannot find my grandmother Mary Ann Cunningham anywhere in 1901 she was born in Leith 1900 and is in Jarrow co Durham in 1911. Kate. :?
