Family Health Tree.....

Post by joette » Fri Sep 16, 2005 5:54 pm

I was wondering if anybody has constructed a Family Health Tree.My interest has been sparked by the prevelance of a few Genetic health problems in the family e.g.Asthma,Hypertension.I have recently obtained Death Certificates for my Paternal line but on the female side to discover that three generations GGrandmother,Grandmother & Mother all died of Senile Decay(which I am hoping is not Alzheimers but just that they lived a long hard life.) Then my Maternal Grandfather did die of Senile Decay too so maybe I am doomed.
What I would like to do is write a tree using cause of Death, personal knowledge & any other possible sources. Maybe I am just a morbid pessimist but I would like to know the possible outcomes for my family :?:

Hullo Joette

Like you, I have taken a keen interest in the Health Problems in my family. A few too many cirrhosis of the liver for my liking!
:(
My family Tree program allows me to have "Cause of Death'" as one of the data options for each individual, which I find helpful.

All the best

Hi Joette and Cat

Can I join your morbid club? I too have added the "Cause of Death" section of my software to show up along with the regular data. I've got a fair share of senile decays.....and/or cerebral hemorrages or even worse infants from bronchitis that a good dose of antibiotics would have cured!! So sad.....

Same goes here - Asthma seems to have gone right down (up) the Scottish line to the present . Not much in the way of cancer, consumption or cirrhosis of the liver .... but im working on the last one
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Thought I'd be popping off with dementia or heart disease, but I've discovered a whole load of bowel cancer, and thats among the non-smokers.

Yep. There's probably a good couple of dozen epidemiologic studies that could use the data.

Hi

Scarily various forms of heart disease resulting in fairly early death seem to run in my mother's mother's family. My Maternal granny died at about my age, when my mother was only 15. Her brother died at the age of 21. Only 1 of my great granny's children survived her. I'm just hoping I inherited my heart muscles from the paternal line........but not the talent for drinking!

ANNE,
I do hope that you have had a Cardio-Vascular checkup & also any children you may have too. Without being a scaremonger these things as you know do run in Families e.g.Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. As one who has lost a Parent at a young age from what I think could have been preventable Heart Disease I am an ardent campaigner of Health Checks. I think your close family history of what sounds like Cardiomyopathy needs investigating(thats my busy-bodying for the week done).

Hi Joette

That is probably good advice which I must admit I have not taken thus far. It's only fairly recently I worked out that there was a problem in the family but it is fairly prevalent. I suppose I was lulled into a false sense of security by my mother and her sister both surviving so far to what is a reasonable age but now I think about it one of my nephews has recently been diagnosed as having a heart weakness. I've had a couple of ops so reckon anything odd might have been picked up but there is also the kids as you say!

Family Health TREE

HI ANNE,
Its the old pessimist here again(hey that would be a good user name for me).I see that you presume that as you have had an operation that your Cardiac health would be ok- not neccesarily esp for Cardiomyopathy- the older version of discovery was a Post-Mortem but things have moved on but tests are specific.
My Brother has an ongoing Health problem(not Cardiac) but one which was showing up in blood tests when he too had Surgeries however the hospital failed to share this with his GP & he was extremely ill, damaged his health irreperably before he went to the Drs& thank-God the problem was picked up straight away.He is on life long treatment which he would have been anyway but we dont know how much more damage was done in the mean time.
As a former Nurse I have every respect for the Medical Proffession but they are human!!!! :(
