I am looking for one of my paternal Grandfathers daughters Margaret Harrison. I have found my paternal Grandfather, John Harrison on the 1911 Scottish Census in 144 Bouverie Terrace, Port Glasgow along with his spouse Elizabeth. However, there is only 1 daughter mentioned, Elizabeth who was born in 1910. Margaret who was born in 1909 does not appear. However, the census form states that they had 2 children and that 2 children were still living. I have searched Scotlands People but I cannot find a birth or death certificate for Margaret. It is possible that Margaret was born in Northern Ireland prior to my Grandfathers immigration to Scotland sometime prior to 1910.
The question is why Margaret is not listed on the census return?
Any help is tracing Margaret would be very much appreciated.
Best Regards
Paul Harrison

Hello Paul
Margaret is a bit elusive.
There is a Margaret aged 1 in Bridgeton, but I didn't look at the image. Could be that a bit more searching by you is on the cards.
Although you did say she was born in 1909, and as you said, there is a good chance that she was born in Ireland.
I am not very familiar with searching PRONI, so not much help to you there.

Re: Looking for Margaret Harrison
Hello and welcome to TalkingScot Paul,
What was Elizabeth's maiden name and where was Elizabeth junior born? Were they married in Ireland as I don't see a marriage around that time in Scotland?
If you are sure Margaret was born at Scotland have you tried searching for her birth under her mother's maiden name in case she was illegitimate?
There is a birth indexed of a Margaret Harrison in 1909 at Belfast and quite a few others roundabout that year.
You can search the Irish 1901 and 1911 census records but unfortunately there seems to be a problem with the site at the moment. I've come across many cases of a child being left with the grandparents in Ireland so maybe that's where she was in 1911.

Annette
