Descendants of Tom Welsh and Isabella MS Rolley pls resp.

Post by BarJoh » Mon Nov 18, 2013 2:09 pm

Hi from Barbara and John in Australia.

Would any descendants or families linked to Thomas Welsh and his wife Isabella Allan MS Rolley of Ayr please respond.

Thomas (26 b. 1868 Ireland/Maybole?) and Isabella (23, b. 1870 Dreghorn) married at Drybridge, Dundonald in 1893 They had at least ten children.

Thomas's parents are recorded on his marriage certificate as Richard Welsh (deceased) and Ann Jane Welsh MS Dunbar. We can find no trace of this couples marriage.

Ann Jane subsequently married Joseph Moor in 1871 in Ireland, according to the birth certificate of their son, William James Moor (b. 1872 Kirkmichael). Joseph, Ann, William James, together with Thomas (recorded as Thomas Welch Moor, aged 13 son) are living at Fisherton Cot House, Maybole on the 1881 census. Joseph, Ann, and Thomas describe their birthplaces as 'Ireland.' Joseph is an agricultural worker.

Ann Jane Moor died in 1906, at Ayr, her cert. describes her as 'the widow of Joseph Moor' despite being recorded at the 1893 marriage of Thomas and Isabella as Ann Jane Welsh MS Dunbar. (She had subsequently married Joseph Moor.) William J Moor is a witness to Thomas and Isabella's marriage.

Thomas and Isabella lived at various places, among them, Maybole, Overmills, Inveresk and Whitletts, Ayr.

On the 1901 census, Thomas describes his birthplace as 'Ireland.'
On the 1911 census, Thomas describes his birthplace as 'Maybole.' ?

Thomas Welsh died at Workman's Dwellings, King St. Ayr on 10th May, 1913. The RCE (Register of Correct Entries dated 23rd May 1913) states that 'deceased fell from a verandah and fractured his skull.'

Thomas and Isabella's eldest son, William James came to Australia in the same year, accompanied by, or followed over the next ten years by, Margaret Allan, Elizabeth Montgomery, May Montgomery, Isabella and her youngest son, John Moore Welsh in 1927, and lastly, we think, Robert Allan Welsh in 1929.

They had other children, named Isabella, Thomas and Mary. Perhaps they remained in Ayr. We don't know. If anyone belongs to this family or knows of them, we would loved to hear from them.

Thomas and Isabella are my husband John's grandparents. His father, John Moore Welsh split from the family when John was five years old, and John has never laid eyes on any other member of his paternal family (or even knew most of his uncles and aunts existed) until a few years ago. We have been looking for Thomas Welsh for more than ten years, mistakenly believing that he came to Australia with Isabella. We only found out that he died in 1913 a few short days ago.

Here's hoping that someone can help.

Hi and thanks for responding,
We don't know where Thomas was living in 1898, but on the 1901 census he is living with Isabella and children at 33 Forth Street, Musselburgh, Inverness. Fourteen years after Thomas died Isabella and son John Moore emigrated to Australia and settled in Geelong, Victoria, if that info helps at all. Thanks Barjoh

Have a wonderful Christmas! We are just enjoying the cricket here....regards Barbara and John \:D/ \:D/
