Tracing Grandfathers secret family - surname Slater

Post by bsidebaby » Tue Feb 18, 2014 10:50 am

Hello I am looking for anyone who may know relatives/friends of Isabella Clark Robinson born 1914 who married my Grandad John May Slater born 1915 in 1935 in Glasgow and who had a son <name and date removed as may still be living> . I believe her last known address before she died <date removed as too recent> was 20 Hutton Road Glasgow. <several recent names and birth dates removed as these are recent events and the people concerned may still be living>

My reason for this enquiry is that my Grandad came to England from Glasgow, met my Nan and had 4 children one of whom is my Mother. He never spoke of his life in Scotland and he was 12 years older than my Nan. I am researching my family history and came across this 'secret family' of his and of course want to know why he left them and if anyone is left living who can answer my questions?

Thank you in anticipation :)

Hi bsidebaby

I have had to edit your post as some of the dates you mentioned are far outside our cut-off dates of 100 years for births, 75 years for marriages and 50 years for deaths. Whilst I appreciate that you wish to find extended family, it has to be remembered that some of these people may still be alive and may not appreciate having their names, family situaton and birth dates given on a public forum.

If anyone has any information regarding this family please make contact by PM.

Best wishes
Lesley

For any events that you know the exact date of you could check the online Glasgow newspapers for a death, funeral, whatever, notice, that may mention family.

The Glasgow Herald is online from the 1800's up to 1990. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=G ... page&hl=en

The Evening Times in online from 1951 to 1990. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2 ... page&hl=en

To navigate click on “Browse this Newspaper.” The search facility is usually not much help.

All the best,
Alan

Those names sound rather familiar.
Not any relations of mine, but my Uncle's family tree has the surnames Robinson and Clark scattered throughout - the Robinson being used as a forename at times.

I'll have a wee dig about and see if there's a connection I think that family were originally from the Johnstone area, but one branch at least lived in Govan.

Do you know Isabella Clark Robinson's parent's names?
