Hello coldshuga and a warm [TS_welcome]

Could this be Jane and family in 1881? The birth year is a few years off from what we understand from the 1901 census, but given her birth record, it looks as though it is a mistake in the census form. The names of her siblings are certainly suggestive!

1881
5 Oakfield Court and Oakfield House, Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian
Edward Vidler, 30, born England, House Painter
Margaret Vidler, 23, Wife, born Edinburgh City
Louise Vidler, 13, daughter, born Edinburgh City
Jane Vidler, 11, daughter, born Edinburgh City
George Vidler, 18 Mo, son, born St Cuthberts, Edin
Edward Vidler, 1 Mo, son, born St Cuthberts, Edin

Young Edward's birth is on FamilySearch and his mother's name was Margaret Lees. However, given the long gap between Jane and George and Margaret's age (if correct), this is likely a second wife and therefore not Jane's mother.

Jane's birth on FamilySearch (6 Nov 1871, Edinburgh) has parents Edward Vidler and Jane Auld.

Edward and Jane Auld were married 24 Nov 1865 in Edinburgh. If you download their marriage from ScotlandsPeople, it should give their parents' names.

That's a start :)

All the best,
Sarah

Thank you for the AWESOME information. It gives me some much needed information i can use for searching!

I have information for William only because i was contacted by a distant relative who realised i was related to the family that
came to live in Australia (she wondered what had happened to them...and now she knows).

In a few years we will be making a trip to Scotland. My Grand father and Great Grandfather still very much identified as Scottish so
there is a strong family connection. All the information i can gather now can only but help for when i visit and am able to view records
myself.

once again, thank you!
