Dougan (s) burial or death Glasgow?

Post by lynnelay » Sun Apr 03, 2016 3:55 pm

Hi, Just found this forum and I hope you may be able to help me with one of 2 brick walls.
Robert Dougan b 1803 in Strathblane, Stirling Married 10 April 1825 to Ann (or Mary Ann) McNair at Barony, Lanarkshire. She was born about 1808 also in Stirling.
I have found them on the 1841 census in Kirk St Barony and in the 1861 census in Broomielaw St Clyde.
I cannot find them on 1851 census Help please.
When Robert died in May 1865 at 8, East Campbell St , Glasgow he was aged 63 and a block printer, widow of Ann McNair. Notified by Andrew Dougans his son.
This means that Ann or Mary Ann died between the 1861 census and 1865 when Robert died.
Scotland's People do not have a record of her death. I even phoned and they checked and could not find one. :(
If any one has any ideas how I can find this death of my great x 3 grandmother, I would be very pleased. Thanks Lynne

Is it possible they moved back and forward to Ireland? Though they were both born in Stirlingshire, their names are Irish sounding. Could not see them on the 1851 in Scotland or England.

Researching M(a)cKenzie, McCammond, McLachlan, Kerr, Assur, Renton, Redpath, Ferguson, Shedden, Also Oswald, Le/assels/Lascelles, Bonning just for starters

There are a couple of possibles for the death of Ann/Mary Ann in England. Unfortunately the indexes for that time do not give age. Did any of the children move to England? Could they have been visiting?

Dec 1861 Mary Ann Dougan Nantwich
June 1862 Ann Dougan Gateshead

Thanks for those ideas. I cannot find any links with the 2 suggestions given, though 1 of her children was in Ireland c 1862 when a child was born. So that is a possibility. I do wish people would stay put. :D I will give a good look in Ireland and get back.

Silly me  , forgotten that Ireland lost most of their records. Their grandchild that was born in Ireland was William Aitken FLETCHER b 30 March 1862 in Limerick. Does anyone know how I can get a birth certificate for him, perhaps that might shed some light on where grandma was.
