Can anyone point me in the right direction please, of the hundreds of names on my family tree, I seem to be stuck on my Maternal Great Grandmother, Mary Ann Dunn.
The only info I have on her, is that she was born abt.1876 in Glasgow (1901 census), she was a Dairymaid who married a William Blackley on the 8 Apr 1898 @ North Leith, Edinburgh, and died on the 1 Jun 1902 @ South Leith, Edinburgh.
On her marriage and death certificates, it states her parents as David Dunn (Carting Contractor) and Elizabeth Smith, but as there is no marriage for this couple, and no death certs. relating to them, I`m starting to think that she may have been an Orphan. Does anyone know how I should begin to find out if this is true or not.

Do the MC and DC for Mary Ann show her parents as deceased? Do you have any clues if she might have had any siblings?
A very quick look on the 1881 census has an interesting entry for a David Dunn "parcel deliverer" living in Glasgow with a 2 year old Mary Ann b. Glasgow.....but....his wife is Jessie.....and the IGI shows her maiden name two ways....Crichton or Doig.....soooooo.....no proof at all....but I wonder if you've checked this family out so they could definitely be eliminated???
It wouldn't be the first time a mother's name was incorrectly listed....but it is a long shot at best.....

Thanks for the reply, yes I know what you mean about the wrong name for the mother, because the strange thing is, that on the marriage certificate William Blackley has his mother listed as Jane Hunter, and I know for sure, that his mother was Janet Cant. The cert. also states that David Dunn & Elizabeth Smith are both deceased. I might try looking for a marriage for the Mary Ann on the Dundee census, to try and eliminate her from the search.
