This is the message I recieved recently. James Gilmour Semple born 26 June 1929 married Alice Mc Gowan on the
13 Jan 1954her parents were Andrew McGowan and Elizabeth Alice
Bennett.

Now I have been searching for my maternal grandfather Andrew McGowan for years with no luck at all, even paid searches found nothing and now this turns up. I have tried looking for a marriage on Andrew and Elizabeth (although he never divorced my grandmother to my knowledge) with no luck whatsoever. I had him as last known in the Mechant Navy in 1920 never to be seen again. Now the odd thing is James Gilmour Semple's father is George Semple brought up as my grandmothers brother9although he was her nephew) and Elizabeth Alice Bennett may be the daughter of Andrew's first cousin. I am now totally confused. has anyone any ideas. I would dearly love it to be my grandfather but not sure where to look next.

Hi Audrey,

I haven't got a clue about your dilema but my Great Uncle disappeared in the 1920's in the Merchant Navy. I am beginning to think either his inclinations excluded remarriage or that following the death of so many in WW1 and the ensuing chaos it would have been easy to change identity and start afresh in foreign climes..... The problem is the world is a big place.

I think some problems have to be periodically ignored to save ones sanity!

Wish I could ignore this one but he is my maternal grandfather, I have never seen a picture or known anything about him, until my mother died three years ago I did not even know what his first name was.

There is this thing inside that even though I have gone back 12 generations I have this burning need to find this man.
