Good morning everyone,
How do we go about checking if there was a divorce before remarriage, assuming Andrew remarried.
My grandparents Andrew McGowan and Mary Jane Semple seperated around 1920, I have a copy of their Marriage certificate 31/10/1914 and nothing is written on it. I always assumed that there was no divorce because of that and have never looked for one. Is there any other way of checking for a divorce.
regards,
Audrey

Hi Audrey
http://www.nas.gov.uk/guides/divorce.asp
I nearly collapsed when three of mine showed up on line.
There are some really interesting records on there.

The separate Scottish Register of Divorces only began in 1984.
Prior to that date a divorce
in Scotland was recorded by means of an RCE annotation on the original marriage register entry, and the linked RCE entry in terms of the Scottish process in the Court of Session.
If the divorce took place outside Scotland, then the details probably weren't supplied to GROS.

Hi David
I was really surprised when one of mine showed up in 1974.
And you are right, there appears to be none after 1984 on line
But plenty before that
And just as an aside, I attended a Conventicle on Fenwick moor yesterday to remember our dead

I must be a bit dense, but I can't find a way to search the records on that page. When I hit 'search site' it gives me a page telling me it will be added shortly.
So can you please tell me how do you find divorce records online?

Hi
On the Home page, click online catalogues and indexes
then you'll get into Open Public Catalogue Access OPAC
You can search the names from there.

Hi Everyone
Maybe I'm the one who is dense.
Do you mean that you can look for a divorce on line at NAS?
This would be of interest to me because my mother was briefly married in Scotland before coming to Canada. I know that he divorced her for desertion, probably in the 1940's or even the early 1950's. I would , of course like to find out when.
When I go to the sight and type in Divorce Records, nothing happens.
