Given the ages you have for the 3 children on the 1841 Census, you might be interested by this information from a parent search on the International Genealogical Index.
Father: Donald Macpherson, Mother: Catherine Robertson
International Genealogical Index / British Isles - Only three hits.3
1. DUNCAN MAC PHERSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 18 DEC 1825 Kenmore, Perth, Scotland
2. DUNCAN MCPHERSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 03 JUL 1815 Killin, Perth, Scotland
3. MCPHERSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 01 JAN 1828 Balquhidder, Perth, Scotland
All three are extracted births and are the only ones which appear with these parents.
So could the family have originated in Perthshire? What is given as place of birth on the 1841 Census?
Food for thought perhaps?
All the best for your research,
Catriona

Catriona presently has major problems in terms of accessing TalkingScot, and has asked me to post this reply on her behalf .......
breakish
There is the death of a Catherine Robertson on Scotlands People which might be worth a look.
I searched Catharine M*CPHERSON, other surname ROBERTSON in 1961, all counties, birth 1786+/-5. There was one hit.
