William McDonald - Keeps Disappearing!.....

Post by Jean Jeanie » Sat Nov 19, 2005 11:16 pm

I have a William McDonald born in 1832 who marries Jane Grant, born 1829. They were married 14 Dec 1861.

In 1871 Jane is found with children, Jane, Lewis and John - no sign of husband, William.

In 1881 Jane is found with daughter Margaret - no sign of husband William.

In 1891 Jane is found with daughter Margaret - no sign of husband William.

Jane died in 1913. Informant to her death is a neighbour.

William died 1922. Informant to his death was son William - not heard of before this.

The one statutory birth record I have is for the son, John, in 1867. The informant was his mother - quite unusual I would have thought in those days.

Just where did William get to at the census times, the birth of his son and the death of his wife?

All suggestions welcome!

Jean

From the Marriage cert or birth cert's of the children what was William's occupation?
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Hi Andy

On the m.c. he was a farm servant.

On the b.c. of son John in 1867 he was an ag lab.

On wife, Jane's d.c. and his own d.c. he was a retired police messenger.

Have just found this one again.

As it's nearly a year ago...............has anyone any thoughts on this conundrum?

Hi Isobel

I don't have the b.c.'s for the other children.

If I thought that they could help me to trace William then I would get them.

I can't see that they will be of any help to me...........or am I missing something?

Hi Jean

Well....if it's any comfort William did return home long enough in 1872 to register the birth of wee Margaret. Even signed his name and not just an x!! Maybe all the other events coincided with his bowling night...or lodge meetings....or..... :?

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean

Well, at least he was around to register one of the births

Hi David

The children's births are on the IGI. All Cromdale, Inverallan and Advie!!!

Can't find him in 1881 with the help of my discs.

I've transcribed Cromdale 1871 for Freecen and he's not there. I've just started Inverallan, so hope to find him there.

As he is not with his wife and family in 1871, 1881 and 1891, he will be a problem to identify.
