where is my james regestered.....

hi everyone its nice to be here.
my problem is i thought i could go back to 1788 with my marshalls.
however recently someone has added some doubts to my research
so i am going back to the start of my search to double check.
but i can not find one birth i really need.
i have tried scotlands people to no avail.
also ancestery and rootschat(who are brill)
his name is
james marshall born 1850/51 in calderbank.glasgow lanarkshire.

his parents are william marshall(blacksmith)
and
helen/elen.marshall(nee)craig.i have him on census in 1861.as 11.yrs old.
i have found a younger brother of his born 1855 william marshall
but not james.
can anyone help.its the line from james i need.

Only two more pre-1855 births recorded to this couple:

Archibald in 1839 in Shotts
Agnes 1841 in Shotts

No sign of a recorded birth for James.

Helen (Craig) Marshall died in 1860 so she wouldn't have been on the 1861 census

William and Helen can be found on FreeCen in Shotts for the 1841 census, as can Helen's parents.

No access to Family Search just now so can't check other possibilities. I'll try later.
