Thanks for everyone's help. I still haven't found his Birth record yet.
However, the MARY MacFie,( on the other records she is Margaret, ) who died in1881 has the same signature of Peter as his younger child. Dolling (unusual name) There were 11 children and they obviously didn't have much imagination with as Ann and Annie and a John and Jonathan
The one thing that was making me doubtful was that on Charles BC Born in 1868 he has placed his mark. All the children's names fit in so I suppose he learned to write his signature between 1868 and 1881
Is this likely?

Thanks, wini, for the additional information.
Does the DC mention the relationship of Ann Gunn to the deceased?
Have you looked at the marriage, on SP of a Gunn to an Ann M*cPh*e in
Invernesshire between 1860 and 1870? This might be a sister and
could give further family info
Have you tried the 1871, 1881 Census. They would show place of birth
and might give other versions of his age!
Best wishes
Catriona
A few thoughts.Peter McPhee.Phie/Fie
Would have been my g. Grandfather.
My middle name is McPhee after my G. Mothers maiden name.
They were definitely from Skye as I remember holidays there as a
small child
Peter married Janet/Jessie Mackinnon on 1866 in Kilmuir by Uig
Age 30. Parents Donald MacPhie and Peggy M.S. Munro
He died in Kilmuir age 84 in 1919. Same parents recorded signed by
a
Ann Gunn. they amazingly had children called ann & Annie.
John & Jonathan.
this would have meant he was born in 1835/36
The only Peter I can find had different parents and birth date
doesn''t fit
If you have any ideas were to look I would love to hear them.

Catriona,
Sorry I misled you by mentioning Ann Gunn on th DC of Peter mcPhie. That was her married name, she married william Gunn in 1896
The Census ages more or less tie in with the DC
1861 25
1871 35
1881 44
1891 illegible blooming stroke through the age
1901 65
the only thing that bothers me about the 1881 census is that Margaret his mother was born in Kilmuir.
Peter has Porneskitag as his birth place and Jessie/Janet his wife and all the children have Balgarvan as their Birth Place
The other odd thing that Ann Gunn was my Grandmother but she was always known as Annie which was the name of her sister.
Odd family
