I seem doomed to have ancestors I can't find any birth record for.
Betsy Gunn married John Gunn in Durness in 1851
Bessy, when she died in 1892 age 64.
Both give her parents as Donald Gunn
and Barbara Morrison
There are 2 marriage entries for them Dond. Gunn and Barbara Morrison 1819 Eddrachillis & Durness and 1820 Eddrachillis & Durness
Assuming they are the same couple their children are
Benjamin 12/11/1820
William 5/01/1822
Ann 5/01/1824
Catherine 15/02/1827
John 30/05/1829
If Betsy was 64 in 1892 she should have been born in 1828
It doesn't look as if they ever moved away from the area so where is she.
I have tried Elizabeth, Betsy, Bessie etc.
Any help please.
I am starting to feel as if I can't do anything for myself I am always appealing to you people.
I am definitely not Agatha Christie.

Hi Wini,
As far as their marriage is concerned, there are 4 entries on the IGI. Three of them are LDS submissions, and one is extracted from the records.
The one from the records is 04-Feb-1820 in Eddrachillis parish and hence should be from the OPRs. That is the one that I would use, as you are unlikely to find any documentation to support the LDS submissions.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

Andrew the OPR shows the marriage betwee Donald & Barbara on 4th February 1820
3 records show up for that date.
Gros Data for the first 2 is 048/00 0002 in Durness Fr 226 & Fr 150
The third is GROS Data 049/00 0002 in Eddrachillis Fr 150
Marriage of Betsy Gunn & John Gunn 1/11/1851 GROS data 048/00 0002
Parish Durness
Children of Donald & Barbara
Benjamin,
William
Ann
Catherine
John
are all on Fr 83 GROS Data 049/00 0002
There is no Birth record for Betsy which seems odd since ther is a record of the others.
Parish Eddrachillis
Her DC in 1892 in Laid, Parish of Durness
Shows Donald & Barbara as her parents and John as her husband
Any more ideas or did they just not bother with that one.
What is bothering me is that I had the same thing with Peter McPhee
in skye.
I am starting to feel jinxed

If Ann had been the one born 1827 I would have went for a Betsy-Ann but Catherine-Betsy just doesnt work but maybe Catherine was a name to be passed on but not her everyday name as there were too many Catherine's around? Just a thought to ponder on.
My nephew's/niece's distinguish between Uncle Jim (my brother) & brother-in-law as Uncle Jim beard& sometimes just Uncle Beard. Not an option for too many females!!!

Hi Wini
I know you said you had tried variants of Elizabeth but while I was trawling the Caithness OPR's (wonderful archive and staff there) I noticed Elisabeth, and Elis(z)bet came up quite a bit.
I know the teaching egg-sucking season is over but we had about 12 variants on Elizabeth.
When we learned about using wild cards on SP things started to develop!
Youre in this for the thrill of a successful search......aren't you???

Thanks Russell
Will try variations on Elizabeth. I had only tried the Betsy, Bessie, bessy, Betsie, so will now try your other suggestions.
I won't let her beat me.
