Hugh McIntyre / Argyll.....

Hi,
I have hit a brick wall with my GGG Grandparent's Hugh McIntyre and Isabella Bell!!

There marriage was registered in both Dalserf and Barony, Glasgow in 1839.

I found them both again in Garngadhill Road, Glasgow with their Grandchildren in the 1871 census. It states that Hugh was from Corpach in Argyll born about 1811 and Isabella was from Kilchoman born about 1807.

I have searched through most of the sites available and can't find a birth for either of them in those area's or their parent's!!!!

Is there anyone out there who can help me????

The next documents you need to seek are their death certificates. These should include the parents' names, including the mother's maiden surname.

Applying for the death certificates was a last ressort; I just thought someone might have some information without going to that extreme!!

Hi Kathy,
Welcome!, and Andrew's advice is sound because unfortunately it doesn't seem likely you'll find Isabella's birth.
According to the 1861 census Isabella (50) says born Kilchoman, Islay and the OPR births for that parish only begin in 1821....

Hugh (46) in the 1861 census says born Fort William, Invernesshire, but Corpach is only abt 2mls away.
Both were probably in Kilmallie Parish.

Hi Kathy,
Don't feel too bad about having to get their DCs - you'd have to at some point!

For eg, say there are half a dozen Hugh McIntyres born in the Corpach area around 1811; how would you know which one is "yours"?
It would need to be a look at Hugh's DC to find out (his parents will hopefully be known - and correct!).
As regards Isabella, a look at her DC is the only way you're going to find her parents at all (again hope they were known).

Here they are in 1851 with another son; but can't see a Dalserf born Duncan in Lanarkshire 1861.

Thanks for your reply! My Cousin from Austrailia has just e-mailed me and told me that you had posted a message on this site.

I wasn't aware that Hugh and Isabella had a son called Duncan so I hold my hat off to you for finding another of their children.

You looked up the 1851 census for my McIntyre's a few day's ago; I don't suppose their was a street name on tthe census form??

Hi Kathy,
That was it - just Kepppochhill.
At that time it probably wasn't big enough to need a number!
But i'll look and see if i can get a rough idea of how many folk lived there.
