I have several problems with Christian Ronaldson!
The IGI has two marriage records for her - to the same man -on successive days in slightly different places.
1) 11 Mar 1805 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian
2) 12 Mar 1805 Inveresk With Musselburgh, Midlothian.
Secondly I can't find a place or date of birth for her either in the IGI or SP at the right time. I can find 2 Christian Ronaldsons on SP but they were born in 1762 and 1795. The first one is unlikely to have borne a son (James Harper) in 1819 and the second is unlikely to have married in 1805.
Where do I go from here please?

Hullo Meg
The mariage records probably indicate the Bride and Groom's respective parishes, the proclamation having taken place in both.
Have you noticed that on the International Genealogical Index , the Edinburgh Parish mariage extract, Christian's father's name is given as George Ronaldson?
Best wishes

Hello Catriona,
Thanks for spotting that. No I hadn't noticed as I went into the IGI with William Harper as the primary name and George as the father for Christian doesn't appear.
I'll have to watch out for that in the future!

I don't know how you can confirm or not if this is your lady but here is an entry from the 1841 census courtesy of FREECEN at :

Hi Annette,
Thanks for that. I don't think they are mine but the names imply a connection. I found my James Harper working as a sawyer in Cleish Kinross-shire in the 1841 census. I think this must be him as this is where he and his wife and family were at every census after that. He is also consistently described as a forester or a gardener.
However I have tried FreeCEN but haven't had any luck - I didn't even manage to find what you did!
Thanks again.

Hi All,
I'm still going round in circles with this one!
If the Christian Ronaldson who married William Harper in 1805 (SP and IGI confirms this) and is the mother of James Harper (born 1819) (SP and IGI) and whose father is George Ronaldson (IGI) where is she from?
I can't find a birth on SP at the right time.
HELP!
Meg
