Brick Wall Time - McKissock and McHarg - Ayrshire.....

Post by JudeNZ01 » Sat Jan 28, 2006 9:51 pm

David MCKISSOCK m Elizabeth MCHARG b 1762 Dailly d bet 1851 and 1855 East Threave Kirkoswald. Had children Elizabeth @ McCrindlestown 1802 m Alexander ROSS, Jannet @ Girvan 1800 never married and Thomas @ Girvan 1791 also never married.
It would appear that David MCKISSOCK was never actually born married or died as I can find nothing at all on him, not a mention anywhere apart from childrens death certs.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.
Many thanks

Hi Jude basking in sunny NZ

Could I ask how many variations on the name McKissock you have tried ?
I can think of at least 12 possible varieties of the surname alone.
On scotlandspeople while looking for Neil McInnes I tried every variation of his name with no result. As a last resort I decided to change his fore name to Niel and Bingo!!.
Keep a list and tick them off as you go

Happy hunting

Hi Russell

Thank you for taking the time to reply to McKissock Mcharg enquiry. It almost seems like they arrived from somewhere, had the kids and went home. Yes I have tried Mc and Mac, i, e, a, even leaving them all out!
Oh well, one of them may make a slip one day and then I'll have found their hiding place!

Thanks again
Jude

Hello Jude,

No sign of David on the IGI and I take it you have seen the 1841 and 1851 census records where Elizabeth is a widow.

This won't help with David (although hopefully he'll get a mention) but Elisabeth (note spelling) died in the magical year of 1855 and not before as you thought.

Kind regards,
Annette M

Mc Kissock is also one of the names I am researching and it's a pain to say the least!
Mc Kissack, Kissoch, Kissach, Kessock, Kessick to mention a few spellings!
BTW mine are from Moray, where there seems to be hundreds!
innes/morayshire
george/morayshire
dunnet/dunnet
wright/nenthorn
good/lasswade

Hi Susieq

Whereabouts in Moray are your George and Innes familes from?

Hi Annette

I cannot believe that I didn't use 's' instead of 'z'. Have changed the surname ad infinitum but didn't occur to me to look at the christian name even though I usually do!
Thank you very much for this.

Now onto David McKissock - once more into the fray dear friends!

Many thanks

McKissack and all the suggested variations

Post by Moira Crawford » Tue Mar 07, 2006 8:20 pm

Hi Jude................this is possibly the MOST wayout of suggestions....
the Isle of Man was full of Kissacks etc etc .....and if all else fails consider
the Isle of Man Genealogy Bulletin Board http://www.isle-of-man.com/cgi-bin/inte ... etin/index

It's the only place I've met up with this surname. Moira C.

McKissock

Jude

I am descended from a McKissock (Alexander, born Glasgow 1796), and I have found the name spelled MCISAAC. Have you tried that?

Good hunting
