Grizel Robertson.....

Post by Alice Bradford » Tue Jan 31, 2006 4:11 am

I would like to find the parents of my third great grandmother Grizel Robertson. She was born about 1778 at Perthshire, Scotland. She married James Adam 26 Nov 1797 and had 7 children. She died about May 1830 and is supposed to be buried by Logie. She had a brother James born about 1760 and died about 1832. There are at least 3 Grizel Robertsons born 1778 at Perthshire but I haven't been able to find one with a brother James born 1760. Thanks for your help. Alice

Hi Alice
Yes, there certainly do seem to be a fair number of Grizel Robertsons born around the date you mentioned in the Perth area. I'd suggest you have a look at the names of her children - this may give you some clues as to her parents names. If you have the "full set" of children (this is not always easy to ascertain!) then, if she followed the Scottish naming pattern (and not all families did!) her first daughter will be named after Grizel's mother and her second son will be named after her father. Armed with this name combination, take another look at the Grizels born around the right time and see if any parents "fit." If you find a couple with promising looking names, then they are a possible only. You would then need to find some other evidence to prove your theory.... and that can be the difficult bit!

Best of luck
Lesley

Hi Lesley,

Thanks for the information about naming patterns and Grizel Robertson. I am very anxious to get to the Family History Center and check that out. I wish I'd made copies of all of the families with Grizels and then I could check it out at home.
Thanks again,
Alice

Hi Alice
You should be able to see most of those Grizels from home on the IGI:
www.familysearch.org
Also, you can probably discount any parents of Grizels on the IGI whose names are not appearing in her children's names at all.

Best wishes
Lesley
