Looking for info Re: Martha Stewart, b-abt 1866 Ayr, Dalwellington to parents Colin Stewart (Sr.?) & Helen Hotchkis. A Martha Stewart is buried at Old Monkland Cemetary, layer 10, section 34 east side (family Plot) who died in 1901.
My problem is that my aunt Isobel Stewart, b 27 Apr 1895 in Coatbridge, Lanark to James Stewart (Colin's son) listed an aunt, Mrs. Martha Hill, as her nearest next of kin in 1923 when Isobel immigrated to the USA. Isobel's parents were both dead by 1912.
I only have one Martha in my Stewart family history (so far) and it would seem that these two Marthas cannot be the same person. Who was Mrs. Martha Hill? Is she the one born 1866 or someone else?
More details re: this family & Martha 1866 can be provided to anyone interested in helping to solve this mystery.

You need to spend a few credits on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.
Firstly to find the ca. 1866 birth record, to doublecheck the names of the parents, and establish the exact year of birth. There's only 4 in Ayrshire in the period 1860 to 1870, of which one is in Dalmellington.
Then switch to a death index search for Martha STEWART, but put in her year of birth and select +/- 2 years. You'll find 17 matches, but, critically, one where the other (married) surname is HILL, and you'll will see that her parents were Colin and Helen !!, and the year of death means that Isobel wasn't telling a porkie ( = "porky pie" = lie).
That does still leave you with the mystery of the 1901 interment .........
