MURDO MACLEOD.....

Post by CatrionaL » Sat Feb 18, 2006 11:07 pm

It doesn't happen very often but tonight I progressed by one generation on the MACLEOD of Lewis branch of my tree. \:D/ One more Murdo "sorted out".

What did surprise me, since it's the first time it has happened to me, there were FOUR witnesses. And not just for "my" marriage, for the other marriage on the page too.

Does anybody know if there would be any particular reason for this? They were married in Fraserburgh. Their usual residences were Barvas/Knock

Best wishes
Catriona

By law two witnesses were required.

But there was nothing in the legislation to say that there couldn't be more than two witnesses :!: , with many instances of there being more than just these two witnesses.

While verging on the unusual to find that there were more than two witnesses, - witnesses as such for the marriage, or witnesses to the mark of the groom or bride, - it's far from unknown to find more than two witnesses ...
