Mary Aitken married Thomas Wallace on 8 July 1831 at St. Cuthbert's, Edinburgh.
Mary would have been born about 1810 0r 1811.
Does anyone have any details of this family?
I was told the father was Samuel but have no evidence to support this.
Thank you from Australia.

Hi Val
Maybe with this information you can take a look at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/index.aspx and get some birth and death certificates. It not very expensive and is a fairly easy site to use. Sometimes the spelling of the names are a little different but as ive been told on this site many times - our ancestors were at the mercy of those who could read and write to record documents

To Wee Ina
Thank you for your trouble but my Mary Aitken married Thomas Wallace in 1831 so she must have been born 15 to 20 years earlier.
Also imagine she was from the Midlothian area
My thanks again for trying to help.

Morning Val
Have you looked up Mary & Thomas's family on the LDS site?
They have a daughter Barbara born in 1832 Canongate Edinburgh.
I looked for a marriage for Samuel and found one in Coldstream in 1804, to a Barbara Wylie (this fits Scottish naming pattern) but a parent search with them doesn't bring up a birth for Mary though there are 3 children born to this couple registered in various parts of Scotland

Thank you for your help.
I have spent all morning at the LDS site and found little.
Where is Coldstream in relation to Edinburgh?
Who were the three children of Samuel and Barbara? I can't find them but I am probably looking in the wrong place!!
Samuel is a real problem to me.
Thanks again

Coldstream is most of 40 miles south-east of Einburgh, beside the border with England.

Good Morning
I found them on the IGI by putting in Samuel Aitken & Barbara Wylie's names into parent search. (It shows using either Aitken/Atkins).
They are:
Sarah Atkins - christened 10th Sept 1810 Errol Perthshire
Margaret Aitkens = christened 10th March 1819 St Cuthbert's Edin
James Atkins - christened 17 April Kirkaldy, Fife
These entries weren't submissions but extracts from the register, however there could be more than one couple with these names.
A search for a birth for Samuel brought up several in England & Ireland but not Scotland.
I can sympathise with you I have rellies who total disappear into Scotch Mist!
Regards
