Where to look now or?.... give it up -you've no chance !!!!

Post by Annieboag » Thu Feb 23, 2006 10:10 am

Hi, I am a relative newbie but am obsessed and daren't look at how much richer Scotland's people is because of me !!!
I'll try to be brief....
Alexander McLuckie b. c.1839, had illegitimate child with housekeeper, Jane Blair who was a widow. Child was called Alexander(my girls gg grandfather !)b. 27 Aug 1868. All on 1871 Census( Jane still down as housekeeper !)Jane died 12 Aug 1878, Alexander registered death but hadn't married her.Alexander jnr then turns up at grandparents house in 1881 ( after many false trails and credits being used up !!!and again in 1891.
Sooo ......I have the elusive line but am I happy oh no !Whats really bugging me is I cant find what happened to Alexander senior(he was shown as deceased on jnr's wedding certificate in 1896)Have searched death certificates between 1878 and 1896-none remotely match. He was a ship carpenter/boat builder,. Died at sea ? And WHY didnt he marry Jane?Married to someone else?

Can anyone suggest my next line of attack or should i forget it ?

Hello Annie

Maybe Alexander jn was made to believe his father was dead ?
So after 1878 Alexander snr dissapears, you havnt found him on 1881/91 census ? Have you searched the English census, i only say that because there is this death
Mar qtr 1910 McLuckie Alexander 65 W. Bromwich 6b 453 which would put his birth year 1845 IF it is him.

There is also another death of a 1 year old child in 1883 - same name different place.

Where in Scotland did all the above take place ?

Tracey
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hello Tracey, thanks for your assistance- Alexander Junior is the grandson at 146 Nelson Street ( Thats the address he gave later when he got married)
I have looked in England but it is such hard work searching there !Also you cant find any corroboration- Scottish death certificates give such a wealth of information. I dont know why the older Alexander bothers me so much..........just nosey and like to solve mysteries
