Hi, All. I have been having a heck of a time finding the parents of the above people. Barbara Dun was born 1798 or 1799 in "Forfar" (married to a David Donald in 1822) and whose father was John Dun and Margaret __________(no last name listed). I can't find her mother for anything. Maybe Barbara sprung off the top of John's head, like Athena (I think it was Athena). As for Barbara Robertson, she was born I guess around 1816-1816; married James Lobban in 1835 in Montrose, I believe (or maybe it was Huntly). Any suggestions as to how I can find these two women's mothers? I've tried Scotlandspeople and the IGI and just tried sticking their names out there in cyberland, but so far, nothing. I assume it's possible their mothers died very young.
Thanks, Anne
Barbara Dun and Barbara Robertson.....

Is this how you guessed Barbara Robertson's age?
Piece: SCT1841/202 Place: Huntly-Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 2
Civil Parish: Huntly Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 2 Page: 14
Address: Deveron Street
Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
LOBBAN James M 30 Carrier Aberdeenshire
LOBBAN Barbara (Sen) F 25 Outside Census County (1841)
LOBBAN John M 2 Aberdeenshire
LOBBAN Barbara (Jun) F 1 Aberdeenshire
LOBBAN Alexr. M 25 Blacksmith Journeyman Aberdeenshire
If so remember 1841 census rounds down so she could have been born anytime between 1812 and 1816 but not in Aberdeenshire.

Hi Anne,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
As the marriage Ina has quoted is pre-1855, it will be be from the Old Parochial Registers (OPRs). By far the majority of marriages (or proclamation of banns) found in the OPRs give little information, rarely any information regarding the parents.
To see this OPR, you have a few choices.
(1) Send off to ScotlandsPeople for a copy.
(2) Send off to the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) in Salt Lake City for a copy.
(3) Visit your nearest LDS Family History Centre and order in the microfilm for that OPR, usually with an option to make a photocopy from it.
Her death certificate may be easier to track down on ScotlandsPeople using the search by two surnames approach.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson
(later) Just had a quick check on ScotlandsPeople for her death and did not see any sign of her.

Hello, Sue. I can't tell if I answered your email or not, and if not, then I'm sorry. No, Barbara Robertson is not related to Barbara Dun. Barbara Robertson married James Lobban and one of their children was Isabella Lobban, my great great grandmother. Barbara Dun married David Donald and one of their children was Ann Donald, who married Thomas Cameron. They are two separate lines. Anne
