Cargin or Cargen Surnames........

I have been researching the Cargin or Cargen surnames in Scotland, & as there are so few, I would like to contact anyone with this name in their family tree.

I checked the 1851 Census tonight & found only 10 Cargin names & 8 Cargen names. I also checked Cargan & there were 5 names.

John Cargen, born: 1792. Saltcotes.
James Cargen, born: 1794. Saltcotes.
William Cargen, born: Saltcotes. 1796.
David Cargen, born: Saltcoats. 1800.

My g.g.g/father was Matthew Cargen, born: abt. 1800 & at his second marriage & at his death, James Cargin & Margaret (ms. Bigger) are listed as his parents.

Matthew Cargin married Margaret Ferguson in 1823, Abbey, Renfrew.
Children:
Mathew Cargen, born: 1822. Abbey, Paisley.
Thomas Cargin, born: 1824. Abbey, Paisley.

John Cargin, born: abt. 1831
Janet Cargin, born: abt. 1830
Thomas Cargin, born: abt. 1834

As there are a number of Cargins born in Saltcoats, Ayr, do you think there is a family connection?

Hi Again,

I have just found the marriage of George Cargin, 46 yrs. who married Marian Hart, age. 44. They married at Blythswood, Glasgow in 1857.
Bachelor & Spinster.

Parents of George Cargin:
James Cargin. deceased.
Margaret Cargin, maiden name, Biggart, deceased.

Parents of Marian Hart:
George Hart. dec.
Jane Hart, maiden name, Biggart, deceased.

This puts him into the family tree of James Cargen & Margaret Bigger, married in 1790 at Saltcoats, Ayr, Scotland.
