Eastons in and around Carriden/Bo'ness.....

Post by robineaston » Sat Mar 25, 2006 3:18 pm

Hi all

I'm looking for people with connections to the Easton family that lived in Carriden area. There was only one, extensively branched Easton family in the Parish of Carriden, mostly in the village of Grangepans since the 1770s. I'm trying to trace its descendants. I've collected much information, but some branches are impossible to trace since they have moved away from Carriden.

I's appreciate every kind of information on people with the name Easton and a connection to Carriden. As a miner family, the Eastons had strong links to Muiravonside and Polmont.

Hi Robin
Ok, I have to come clean - I don't have any Eastons. But I do have a Marion White, who, when she is not claiming to be from Dunfermline, let slip that she was from Carriden in the 61 & 71 and stated Grange Pans as her place of birth in the 81. She was born abt 1810. Father was John White, a salt manufacturer, mother was Marion Alexander.

Have you come across any Whites in your research as I've not followed this one up at all.

Best wishes

Robin

I don't have Eastons either. I do have however ancestors from Polmont and Muiravonside. They were miners and moved to Airdrie in the mid 1800s, to work in the mines there. Might be worth having a look at some of the Airdrie Eastons to see if there is a connection.

Regards

Catriona

No known connections, but it's a pretty common surname around these parts.

There's even a street named for one of them :

Easton Drive, Shieldhill
Putting FK1 2DRinto multi map will show it's location.

Hello

Indeed, I've got a salter called White, but not John:

Mary Easton, the daughter of John Easton, coalminer in Carriden, and Marjory (Maitland, Marjory) Donaldson, born on 4-8-1797 in Carriden, died there on 25-12-1882. - Spouse on 5-9-1823 Robert White, salter, christened on 7-7-1801 in Carriden, died before 1851, son of N. N. White and Agnes Stenhouse.

- Mary Easton is cousin to my ancestor. Haven't checked yet the OPR for Robert's birth to see why the IGI has the father's forename blank.

I've been e-mailing with a descendant of Robert & Mary from Canada.

Best wishes

Hi Robin
Thanks for that. I'll keep note of it with my White family, and it may all "join up" one day!

Best wishes

Hi Robin

One of my Strathie's (Strachan) side has is married to a Williamson from Carriden. I know that one of George Strathie and Jane Williamsons children were connected to the Easton's here is the web address of the lady who has the Easton's in her tree http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... rname.html Don't know if that will help you. Our direct line is one of their other children.

George Strathie's name kept changing from Strathie to Strachan do you have him in your tree ?

Robin

A Thomas Easton and a William Easton (presumably brothers) both of 22 Grange Terrace are in the 1939 to 45 Bo'ness and Carriden Parishes War Time Roll of Honour. Thomas was in the RAF and William the Indian Army.

They're the only Eastons listed in the book.

Best wishes

Martin
