Hi Mugoo
And a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D

I see on the IGI there is a extracted birth of a David Irvine born in March, ...but 2 years later than you mentioned:

DAVID IRVINE
Event(s):
Birth: 02 MAR 1833
Christening: 07 APR 1833 Ayr, Ayr, Scotland

Parents:
Father: JOHN IRVINE
Mother: AGNES JENKINSON

But you may already have seen this, and it may not been your man. Where did you find his birth date of March 1831?

According to the IGI the same couple also had:
  • JOHN IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 15 FEB 1839

GEORGE IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 04 JAN 1853

MARY IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 30 SEP 1836

ARCHIBALD IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 24 NOV 1844

JANET IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 23 FEB 1835

JAMES IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 24 SEP 1841

Do these names look familiar, or is it the wrong family?

Also on IGI, their marriage:
DAVID IRVINE
Marriages:
Spouse: JANET MCTAGGART
Marriage: 17 MAR 1850 Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland

Best wishes
Lesley
Researching:
Midlothian & Fife - Goalen, Lawrie, Ewart, Nimmo, Jamieson, Dick, Ballingall.
Dunbartonshire- Mcnicol, Davy, Guy, McCunn, McKenzie.
Ayrshire- Lyon, Parker, Mitchell, Fraser.
Easter Ross- McCulloch, Smith, Ross, Duff, Rose.

Hi Mugoo,
Welcome to TalkingScot!
You might be better looking for the DCs of David IRVINE & Janet McTAGGART for their parents' names.
As Janet is a widow in 1881 you know David should've died by 1881 at the latest.
The 1861 & 1871 censuses would be best checked to see if David is still living in those years - it would help narrow down your search.

There are a quite a few births for their children on the IGI,

1861 census - probably in the Kilbarchan area, Renfrewshire.
1871 census - probably in Glasgow.

Hi Lesley,
The 1851 Lanarkshire FHS index has this David IRVINE....
It could be him, and the later censuses will hopefully give the answer!

Hi Mugoo,
Thanks for letting us know.
It looks like a mistake on the census then - they aren't always correct....

I hadn't known the family had emigrated, was thinking they were still in Scotland where you could've looked for their DCs.
Do the U.S. records not have parent details? Only asking because i know nothing of American BMDs!

Hi Mugoo
The IGI shows (as extracts) these children to
Father: David Irvine, Mother: Janet Mctaggart
(there are a few other who are submissions, I've not included them)

THOMAS IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 20 MAY 1861 Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland

ANDREW IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 22 MAY 1863 Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland

JEANIE IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 30 JUN 1866 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

AGNES IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 31 DEC 1868 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

MARGARET IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 19 DEC 1870 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

ANN IRVINE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 26 AUG 1873 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Is the US death certificate likely to show both parents of the deceased? If so, as Jack suggested , that would be the way to go. Even if you just had a father's name it would help you in your search for thier parents.

Best wishes
Lesley

Leslie,Jack,This couple had 10 children,The oldest son,Allan emigrated with his father,4 others with their mother,Thomas,Andrew,Mary and Margaret Some apparently died young,I have no info on this.DCs prior to the early 1900,s are difficult to find in the US.David age 22 puzzles me.I have David b.1857 d 1859.Its possible another child b.1859 was given the name David.I was aware of 9 kids, perhaps this is the 10th I couldn,t find.

Hi Mugoo,
You may be able to find David IRVINE when the 1841 Scotland census comes online.
Hopefully he'll be with what looks like his parents - and maybe siblings?
Again an "If" - IF there are some siblings they may have remained in Scotland?,
so try and track them down through the censuses & their BMDs.
Jack
ps, it might still be worth looking for David & Janet in the 1861 & 1871 censuses.
It might be useful to know what children were with them.
pps, do you have the full DC details of the David that died in 1859 that confirms his parents?
This is why censuses sometimes come in handy!

Hi everyone

If you do go for the 1861 and 1871 census images you'll find them right where Jack predicted! 8) (why am I not surprised  ) Actually I searched on Allan IRVINE for the 1871 aged 18-20 just to probably make it easier to find ..there was only 1. I was also scratching my puir heid why David's death under any misspelling of Irvine wasn't appearing......and was about to suggest he may have emigrated first or deserted the family. Glad to hear it was the former :D !

Best wishes
Jean
