Hi gjones

I would suspect that the name McAgnus is an error of transcription, due to a Registrars difficult to read hand writing. Scotland's People has no McAgnus at all. However there are a number of MCANGUS. SP also has a few, very few MAGNUS

The Name Thesaurus doesn't have it either.
www.namethesaurus.com/Thesaurus/Search.aspx
though it has a long list for McAngus

Best wishes

Catriona

Hi Catriona, thanks for your reply. I have been helping a lady over here in Oz locate her natural(birth) mother...who's surname was definitely McAgnus and it is known/believed she does have a Scottish background.
The family emigrated to Oz...and this is where we have hit the proverbial brick wall,no records can be found.

I understand that McAgnus was also associated with a musical background, and that a person of that name won a very prized recognition for some musical work they produced. The award came from the Hawaiian Islands..Na Hoku Hanohano.

I do think that maybe the name may be borderline....South Shields or Newcastle-on-Tyne.

Thanks so much for your input.....much appreciated.

Regards,
Gillian
