Trying to locate Jimmy "Napoleon" McMenemy's wife.

Post by delmarco » Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:01 am

Ok, having difficulty finding out who James married, his parents were
McMenemy and Ann Smith, I know he had at least two sons John and Joseph, I am assuming were born after 1905, since I couldnt locate them on SP. Ive been giving bio info from the scottish football assoc, no info on his marriage seemed to be available.

any help would be appreciated :)
Regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,
If you go to the following site for tributes to wee Jimmy "Jinky" Johnstone http://www.celticfc.co.uk/newsroom/jinky/jj_8.aspx you`ll find a relative of Jimmy McMenemy called Andrew Sanqua from Ontario, Canada, his email is asanqua@rogers.com they may have his wifes name.

Karen,

Try sending an email to Celtic Football Club, as Jimmy was very famous with them, someone there should be able to assist with Jimmy`s wifes name, their address is customerservices@celticfc.co.uk

John:
You're a doll! I sent an e-mail off to Andrew and just received a reply, he had some information, but like me, the Jimmy ties are mysterious!! Im sure quite a few families spun tales about being related to him, due to his celebrity. Then again Im sure the McMenemy's could all be related somehow. He requested to stay in touch, I thank you for puting me in touch with him, He is the 3rd family member Ive met through this pursuit.

I know his parents were James McMenemy and Ann Smith, I cannot find a marriage record although I found on his birth cert they were married in West Cadder in I believe in 1871, Iv searched on SP and came up empty.

I'll keep on looking, thanks again John for your help, its much appreciated!!

Regards,
Karen

Karen,
James McMenemy & Ann Smith were married on the 20 Aug 1871 at West Calder, West Lothian, you did not find it because James surname is indexed under McMenimy, they were both residing at Cobbinshaw, West Calder. Ann`s parents were Daniel Smith (Labourer) & Mary Clark. John`s parents were John McMenimy & Mary McMenimy. James is aged 24, and Ann is either 16 or 18 (bad writing).

Karen

Since you have his year of death and his parents names, finding a death entry at New Register House shouldn't be too difficult. His wife's name should be on that.

Perhaps a TS member could do that for you while at NRH for their own research? Unfortuanately my own next visit there is a long way away.

Regards
