Looking for the living family of John Mc Ilroy and Catherine

Post by qbeebill1 » Thu Apr 13, 2006 12:26 pm

I AM TRYING TO CONTACT ANY DESENDANTS OF JOHN McILROY AND MARY ANN:(CARLIN) FROM COATBRIDGE.
I FOUND THEM LISTED IN THE 1881 CENSUS AS LIVING IN DUNDYVAN ROAD,BROWNS LAND. ALONG WITH CHILDREN : JOHN CARLIN(McILROY)
STEPSON. AGED 24. - CATHERINE CARLIN(McILROY) STEPDAUR AGED 17. AND THREE OTHER BOARDERS.
IF ANY DESENDANTS ARE STILL ALIVE TODAY PLEASE CONTACT ME. AS IAM TRYING TO FIND OUT THE DEATH DATE OF CATHERIN CARLIN. SHE MARRIED MY GG GRAND FATHER ALEXANDER DEVLIN. BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND HER DEATH DATE. SCOTTISH RECORDS ARE ONLY UP TO 1955. IF SHE WAS STILL ALIVE THEN SHE WOULD BE IN HER EARLY 90's. yOUR HELP WOULD BE GREAT REGARDS , WILLIAM KERR

Hello William

Sorry I don't have any further news for you but I'm wondering if you've narrowed up the time period Catherine's death occured in? There doesn't seem to be an indexed record of it on SP as I've looked pretty extensively. You know she was living from the last census in 1901 so what is the next event you have her on? The MC of her children should indicate if parents were living or deceased....have you tracked down all the kids? What about the death of Alex? This still might not help you find her death exactly but at least you would have a better idea of when. I do hope you have success in finding some living connections!

Best wishes
Jean

Ps....and it's true that Scottish online records only go through 1955....but the complete records up to present day are available at NRH in Edinburgh for searching.

Dear Jean, thanks for your help so far. ALEXANDER DEVLIN died on 6th May 1882, and thats all I know!. Do not now much about the children. ( Also I never knew much about the Devlin line of my family. Like I never knew much about any cousines I may have had, or aunts or uncles, in the GG grandfather family. So I cannot help there.
I do wish I had started all this when I was younger and still living in Coatbridge.
Regards Bill

Hello William

Ummm.....according to my research that May 1882 date is when Alex and Catherine married  :? I suppose there are some folks who would argue this could be compared to death.......................(honest I'm only kidding!!! ) The point is that I think you're confusing yourself. If you do a little searching on ScotlandsPeople website you'll have no problem finding Alex and Catherine and family on both the 1891 and 1901 census returns!

Best wishes
Jean
PS...and it's never too late to begin genealogy!! Although I have to agree that if you had done a little work while living in Coatsbridge you might have this all figured out by now :D .....but it's never too late!
