Allan Irvine.....

Post by mugoo » Fri Apr 14, 2006 11:56 pm

I have Allan Irvine June 25 1852,Rosehall,Old Monkland,Lanark. This appears to be Info of a deceased member Of the LDS.As there are other family members with a similar listing, could this be another event,ie.a conversion. For Jack,I haven,t found my info on David Irvine b.1857 d.1859.After seeing the 1858 b.date and the 1881 census showing David age 22,I believe this info to be my ancestor.

Hi Mugoo
I'm not really up on LDS procedures but I came across a date pattern similar to this one for one of my lot and I think as you mention it has something to do with the LDS church :
ALLAN IRVINE
Male
Other Event(s):
Other: 25 JUN 1852 Rosehall,Old Monkland, Airdrie, Lanark, Scotland

So, unless you are a member of the LDS church, as far as I'm aware this date probably doesn't indicate anything of relevance to your average family historian - that is, I don't think it is a date related to a death, marriage or birth. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of LDS workings could explain?

best wishes
Lesley

Hi Mugoo,
As the Rosehall, Old Monkland 1852 entry for Allan IRVINE is from a deceased LDS member,
then maybe see if whoever who gave this information is still living?

hi Mugoo & Jack
I'm clearly having one of those evenings :?
I took Allan Irvine to be the LDS deceased person!
LDS Church membership record of a deceased person. The original records cannot be sent to family history centers. The records of members who died before 1988 can be viewed at the Family History Library. These records cannot be photocopied. Information for members who died after 1988 is available only on the Internet version of the IGI. Married women may be indexed under their maiden or married surnames.

Early LDS Church ward or branch records. The entry may be hard to find because the source does not have a page number index and because the names, dates, and places may be different on the film than in the IGI entry.
I don't know quite what to make of it all - I don't think it is clear at all...

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Jack
I don't know how the LDS "sealings" etc work and if it is possible someone can be retrospectivley baptised in a nominated date within their own lifetime (e.g. they can be noted as baptised into the church in the 1850s by someone in the 1980s)

I have a David Goalen born 20 August 1825 Leith
IGI has some "other" event for him for 8 December 1844
He married 12 September 1845, was in Leith for the 1851, then was in England for 1861. Don't know when he died. Another branch of the Goalens, same family as far as I'm aware, joined the LDS and went off to Salt Lake City around 1900.

I'd always thought that a Salt Lake City Goalen descendant was maybe responsible for that "other " event, by including David in their ancestor research. But I'm really just guessing....and whenI saw Allan Irvine's entry it looked like a similar situation.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Jack,I believe you,re right, and that person was unaware of those birth records.Thomas ,David and Mary did exist.I believe David remained in Scotland while Thomas and Mary emigrated to the USA in 1882.Thomas died(TB)before 1900,Mary m.John Robertson in the USA.Another daughter Margaret m.Robert G. McVicker. The 1841 census has given us info on Davids parents(Allan Irvine & Mary Love)Their son (myGF)I can follow forward.I would like to find their parents. The 1841 census in Lanark indicates Allan was born out of county.Mugoo
