It would appear from the census information of 1841 that he is and his gravestone here in Ottawa indicates that he was born in 1801 but does not specify the town. Can anyone tell me if there is some document that would confirm the identity of my gg grandfather, the hatter of Dundee, as having been born in Inveresk. many thanks

James H. Peacock.....
I desperately need help in determining whether my great great grandfather, James Peacock who left Dundee for Canada with his family around 1848-50 was the same James Peacock born in Inveresk in !801.

Hello, I've looked at the information available which you have obviously seen too, do you know if the name Hay has been given to any of your ancestors after James? I find that the middle names are often carried on and it has helped me tie up a few loose ends with my rellies. Also the names William and Isabella - has any of his children got these names?
Apart from that, I don't know of any way to confirm whether this is one of yours, though I don't know what info there will be on his Death Certificate if you can get access to that.
Sorry I've not been able to offer any further help
Annie

Hi,
Thanks for the follow up to my plea for help. Information from the cemetary office here in Ottawa says his parents are not listed in their records. But I never thought of locating the death certificate at the Ontario Archives. Thanks for the suggestion.
As for the middle name "Hay". I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe one of his sons was George H. who is also buried in the family plot here in Ottawa. His grandson Clayton might have carried the H. as well, but he has only one son, Marc and I don't believe he has that middle initial.
However, Williams abound in our branch of the family. I am William, as was my father , grandfather and great grandfather. My son is William Matthew and he has named his eldest William Andrew. so although the"hay" does not seem to have been given my ggrandfather, he was named William Ramsay after his mother and we've carried the Ramsay name through the generations . I don't know that this will help you in any way, but I'm curious to know how you are related to James HayPeacock.

Hi William,
I'm not related to James, sorry if I gave you that impression. I was just giving you hints on how I've tracked down some elusive rellies to fill in gaps in my tree.
