Help needed once more.........please!.....

Post by garibaldired » Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:15 pm

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on a little puzzle I have!
:?
In the 1891 census there is a DANIEL HARPER staying with Thomas and Catherine Harper in Ballingry, Fife. He is 26 and born in Abernethy and Kincardine.
Looking at the IGI and the 1881 census he seems to be the son of James Harper and Margaret ms Fraser, and James is said to be born in Ireland.

Now is this a red herring and there is no relationship? Though it does seem too much of a coincidence doesn't it?

Where do I go from here?
Meg

Hi garibaldired

Daniel was indeed born in Moray in 1864. His BC is easily found on SP and also will tell you the date of his parents marriage. The IGI gives this list as their children:

1. DANIEL HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 21 APR 1864 Abernethy And Kincardine, Moray, Scotland

2. JOHN HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 06 APR 1862 Abernethy And Kincardine, Moray, Scotland

3. MARGARET HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 08 SEP 1866 Abernethy And Kincardine, Moray, Scotland

4. JAMES HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 10 NOV 1857 Abernethy And Kincardine, Moray, Scotland

5. MARY HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 10 JUN 1855 Abernethy And Kincardine, Moray, Scotland

6. ALEXANDER HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 03 DEC 1868 Abernethy And Kincardine, Moray, Scotland

7. HELEN HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 04 MAR 1860 Abernethy And Kincardine, Moray, Scotland

8. ISABELLA PETER HARPER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 12 JUN 1853 Arbroath, Angus, Scotland

As for Thomas and Catherine Harper?.....I'm not finding Daniel living with a Thomas and Catherine in1891. He is boarding with a family in Ballingry but there appears to be no relation.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Justjean,

Thanks for your reply.
That just goes to show you should check these things out yourself! I was told he was staying with Thomas in Ballingry in 1891 and not having looked myself.....................!
One fewer blind alley to trot up!
Thanks again,
Meg

Hi Meg

It certainly is a good example of not taking anyone's word for it  ...or going from other people's memories  ! You do have to ask yourself....who were Thomas and Catherine then?? Perhaps they really were relatives in some way or else how would they have been mentioned at all :?: Looks like you still have a mystery to solve......... :D

Best wishes
Jean
