Hi Marzipan
I did a search on SP for Mary L*g*t, other surname - thom*on, born 1858 +/- 5 years. It came up with one result:
1940 LEGGAT MARY, other surname THOMSON F 81 CARLUKE /LANARK 629/00 0055
I have no idea if it is your one as I only have three credits left, so not enough to check, but it certainly looks like it might worth a look, even just to eliminate this one. Later than you thought, and not quite in the "right" place either, but hey, innacuracies in family stories are normal!
best wishes
Lesley

Hi May
Glad you found her. I hope you tried Jim's suggestion first and didn't waste credits on my suggestion.
Jim's sugggestion did look far more likely age wise, time wise and location wise.
Could this be your Samuel in 1881?:

Hi Lesley,
yes, this is my Sam. Connis.I managed to get his Royal navy records to 1882,he then apparantly joined the merchant navy,on my grandfathers birth cert.it says merchant services, this is 1886.He went to sea after this & thats as far as we know.If he had died at sea, surely his widow would have been informed? From what I remember my grandad saying ,she had to wait 7years before she could consider herself a widow.I will keep searching, wish I was as quick as you,it took me almost a year to get the info.you gave me
I,m new at this & new at computers but am enjoying the challenge, thanks again,May.
