help finding my sims.....

HI there, i really hope someone can help me on this.

my Gx2 grandfather was william sim. I have his marriage in 1857 in slamannan to agnes cuthbert. I also have williams death certifiacte for 1902 for slamannan. i have william on the 1861, 71, 81 and 1901 census and given his age on these he should be born about 1837. Although i havent found anything in the OPRs as yet!

Now here is where my problems really start as his parents are proving more difficult to find.

Williams parents were William Sim and Janet Allan. On his marriage certificate it does not say they were dead so i assumed they were still living then.

Then when i found his death certificate his mother is named as Janet Wilson, previously Sim, M.S. Allan

. On this they are both deceased. I cant seem to find a death for them anywhere and I cant seem to find them on the 1841 or 1851 census.

William the son, according to the census i have him on was born in Dunfermline. I dont have any other children for them at the moment so dont know if they were in any other areas.

Im really quite stuck and stumped and the thing is if they died in council times then surely they must be somewhere

if anyone can help me shed any light on this i would be very grateful.

Noted you had not received any feedback to this post?

There are 12 Janet Wilsons with the other name as Allan in the deaths but none with the other name Sim. Maybe worth a look at them to see if one is yours?

There is also 4 marriages of a Janet Allan to a Wilson none of a Janet Sim so again maybe worth a look at them.

The fact that Janet is listed as Wilson, previously Sim, MS Allan would make it more likely to her being married to William Sim.
What was William Sim snr occupation? will that give you a clue to his movements and a reason why they re not on the census?

thanks for noticing i hadnt had any replies and taking pity on me

I will have a look at the ones you suggested and see what i can come up with. Although i have had a look at a couple of the 12 you mentioned, but with no luck.

also William snr according to his sons death certificate was a baker

So if he has moved around this wouldnt really explain it, would it

Yuo'll probably have done this already, but I had a quick look on the IGI for William Sim and Agnes Cuthbert and did a search for their children. The list below comes up. Note that all the children are blorn in Slamannan, Stirlingshire except John who was born in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire. If this is "your" William and Agnes and their children (which you probably have already) - it might be worth looking in Lanarkshire for William. Hope I've got the right lot and this helps and that I'm not confusing matters!

I already had that information, but thanks for trying to help.

I have information for william who is the father of the children you listed but it is information on his father and mother i am looking for. His father was also William Sim.

Now i am also wondering if the name would have been different on documents i am looking for. E.G. simm, sime, sym, syme. Its an lot of avriations to start looking through
