Hi Mugoo
If, as it looks like, Allan Irvine died before 1855, there will be no death entry on SP for him because he died before statutory registration was introduced.
What is Mary's given age in 1851? Again, if John had died before 1855 there will be no death entry.
Could Mary have remarried (again  ) between 1851-55?
Have you tried looking for any of the family in 1861? Any sign?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Mugoo

I've been staying quiet on this one mostly because I can't add a thing to help break the wall. :( If they are in Scotland in 1861 or 1871 it will take a lot of aummunition to bring them out of hiding. I'm wondering if either they left the country or Mary died before 1855 and the kids were taken in and maybe are enumerated under different surnames???? Because you're working on this line I have to assume you do have some connection back to it. Just which one of the kids are you descended from and where did they live???? I even considered that Mary might have married for a third time before 1861 and Thomas and Margaret might be listed under a new surname. But so far everything I've tried has failed...... :(

Sorry....
Jean

Hello Mugoo,

Andrew Irvine was living in Stevenson, Ayr in 1861 with his wife Janet Fraser. There is also a Janet Irvine of the correct age in Stevenson so I think she may be worth a look to see who she is living with.
Andrew married in 1856 in Stevenson and according to the marriage entry his mother Mary was still alive. Here he is in 1881 -

Hi again,

Margaret Jardine married Walter Coventry in Bathgate in 1864.

OK then - I think this is her in 1881 as the names and places are just too coincidental to ignore.
A check of the IGI gives a marriage of Thomas Wallace and MAry Love in 1851.

Margaret COVENTRY (WALLACE) M 34 F Carnbroe, Lanark, Scotland

William COVENTRY 1 M Bathville, Linlithgow, Scotland
Rel: Grandson

If so then Mary died in 1886 in Linlithgow - The death was registered by her son in law Walter Coventry.
