Help finding G Grandad.....

Help finding G Grandad.....

I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to find information on a JOHN FREDERICK VAN DER VELDE. He was named on my grandad's marriage cert.My grandad got married in 1927 and JOHN FREDERICK was given as deceased. I can't find any record of him. I found a Johannis Van der Velde on another site as living in Scotland. I've looked on SP and found a JohannisV D V living in Leith with his wife Rebecca Morris, they had a son also called Johannis(might be my grandad).If anyone can help I'd be everso greatful. Hi Katherine,
Johannis/Johannes/Johan/ John are all interchangeable. My husband is named Johan but while living in Kenya in the early 1950's he was called John by his teachers and class mates because of the English influence there at the time. When he returned to South Africa he reverted to Johan because of the Afrikaans influence there. Hope this helps.

In case you don't have it the marriage of John and Rebecca is found on Scotlands People in 1901 indexed as....

1901 FELDE JOHN MORRIS REBECCA ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN

Oddly enough though.....this John aka JOHNANIS VAN DE VELDE doesn't die until 1943.....and has a son as informant.....and the parent data does not match that from the marriage in 1901 :shock: Did your grandfather state his mother's name when he married in 1927??...Was it Rebecca??

Hi Fiona,thanks for replying. All these variations on the name John are very confusing.I wonder Where I should go to find his birth. I might have to get in contact with Sfh Africa House.
and see what they can do.

Hi Jean, I found Johnnis Snr and Rebeccas' marriage on the S P site. It is so frustrating not knowing if he is the right person I'm looking for. I wonder where he originates from the Netherlands or Sth Africa. I'll probably get in touch with Sth Africa Hse and the Dutch embassy to see if any birth records are available to veiw in their respective couyntries. Thanks again.
