CAN ANYONE HELP.....
I AM LOOKING FOR HELP WITH THE COCKBURNS, I CANT GET ANY FURTHER, ALEXANDER COCKBURN MARRIED ISABELLA HOGG IN 1855 THEY HAD 5 KIDS JOHN ALEXANDER, ALISON AND ISABELLA THEY HAD A SON THOMAS WHO MARRIE LYDIA FRASER FRIER IN 1881 AND HAD 11 KIDS THEY HAD THE KIDS AND MARRIED IN SOUTH LEITH. THE SECOND FAMILY THAT I AM LOOKING FOR ARE THOMAS COCKBURN AND ELSPETH KAY THEY MARRIED IN RATHO IN 1820, THEY HAD 8 KIDS DAVID, JOHN, MARGARET, JANE,THOMAS, JOSEPH AND JAMES, THEIR OTHER SON IS ALEXANDER WHO MARRIED ISABELLA HOGG. Not sure if you've checked on SP - you may already have the information about the marriage of Alexander Cockburn and Isabella Hogg?? I had a few credits about to expire and nothing of my own organised to look for, so had a look at it. Are you trying to work backwards from this marriage?? If you are, I think you'll get enough from this to search the LDS site and perhaps the OPRs on SP.
There's quite a lot of information on the certifcate and well worth looking at if you haven't already.
Alexander Cockburn (I think a lawyer, was living at 7 Corunna St, Leith at the time of the marriage to Isabella Hogg (her address was East Linton). They were married according to forms of the Free Church of Scotland at East Linton in the Parish of ?Prestonkirk.
Alexander was born in Ratho and his parents were Thomas Cockburn (?? a forester) and Elspeth Kay.
Isabella was born in the Parish of Prestonkirk and her father was Alexander Hogg (another lawyer) and Isabella Wilson.
The witnesses were William ??Ford (not very clear) and John Kay.
If you already have this information - sorry for repeating it! Since two of the named folks are lawyers you might have some luck searching for them, perhaps with the Faculty of Advocates? The writing on the certifcate is a bit unclear in places, but I hope some of the above is of help to you.
