Belston Quarry Drowning.....

Post by JustJean » Sat May 20, 2006 3:09 am

I've recently found a long lost uncle whose DC states his body was found in Belston Quarry on 16 Oct 1905 at 2:30 pm. The RCE attached which I've received a transcript of states "Went missing in Ayr on 11 August 1905. Dead body found in Belston Quarry, Parish of Ayr - probably drowned in said quarry on 11 th August or shortly thereafter. (usual residence No 3 Cathcart Street, Ayr)."

Now I'm wondering if it's possible his missing report or even the discovery of his corpse some 2 months later might have made the Ayrshire newspaper. Any suggestion of which paper....or where to find the archives of said paper?

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean,

It may be worth contacting The Scottish & Local History Library, within the Carnegie Library in Ayr - details on TalkingScot's Libraries page.

Their newspaper holdings are given on the following web page.

All the best,

Andrew
