McCULLOCH and BARR.....

Post by Maud Jarvis » Sat Mar 19, 2005 3:03 pm

I`m seeking any descendants of Ezekiel McCulloch, born in Ireland, then married and lived in Tradeston Glasgow, then latterly in Port Glasgow.

I have managed to trace one relative, his grandfather was brother of my grandmother, and fortunately has given me some information which enabled me to obtain a number of BMDs from the Scotspeople site, I know however, that there are some McCulloch still in Scotland, Dumbarton.

My father was illegitimate child (born 1896) of Christina McCulloch, his father was James Barr , son of Neil Barr, St Lawrence St Greenock.
Christina married Joseph Hutton in 1898, she died in 1914.
I don`t know when, perhaps after his mother`s death? my father "adopted" the name of Barr

I have been unable to trace anything about James Barr except for knowing that in 1896 he was named by the Sheriff as the father of Christinas son, he was then living at 34 St Lawrence St. but where did he go from there, did he marry, when did he die etc etc, I would love to know and find any other members of the family who could answer my questions.

Some of the McCulloch marriages are..
John married Janet Neil Tosh , Port Glasgow 1894

Jane McCulloch married Patrick Smith, 1901, Port Glasgow

Andrew McCulloch married Jane Hughes, 1884 (Rutherglen)

Any of their descendents around??

One of the sons or grandson of Ezekiel, emigrated to Youngston Ohio,
I have a photograph of "Alex, the second Yankee" who was he??

Can anyone shed light on any of these families, I would love to make contact.
Any information would be so much appreciated, thank you

Maud

How we wish we could help you find the information you seek. Your perseverance is an example to those of us who are tempted to give up too easily.

Best wishes

Catriona

Thank you Catriona
I do myself wish that something would turn up, there MUST be descendants somewhere, but the problem is, if they are not interested in their family history, there is no way I can contact them.

I was not myself interested in tracing anyone until my son suggested it a few years ago when he had come to a brick wall in my late husband`s tree, he thought it would be a great idea to start on my line.

Little did I know then what secrets I would uncover!, now of course I wish I had begun much earlier when perhaps some of my relations would have been still alive, and just might have given me a lead, but then we all learn from our mistakes and wishes are of no help unfortunately, but I am rather a stubborn person and will not give up easily.

I little knew a couple of years ago what discoveries I would make and had I not persevered would have remained in the dark, I now know quite a lot about my Canadian relatives and just hope that one day before I fall off my perch, that I will make contact with a descendant.
Hopefully I will make the same progress some day with the Scottish side

How I wish I could win the lottery and have the ability to travel around the country and look for them, but then that is just a dream, do`nt we all wish for that!!

Thanks for your interest anyway.
Maud

This on IGI...

Could Christina McCulloch be the daughter of Ezekiel McCulloch and Christina Frazer? :?:

I found a son, also Ezekiel, born to this couple in Tradeston 6 August 1862. I suppose it is possible that they did also have a daughter who, in 1896, would have been of child bearing age.

There is also an Ezekiel McCulloch marriage to a Caroline Frazer in Tradeston in 1862, but could see no children from them. :(
